A land baron is a lessor/ owner/ possessor of a large piece of land. Land barons buy and sale land. Take note that a land baron could be an individual or an organization that owns and leases/ sales apartments or land to others. Though it is said that they do more of selling than leasing.
A land baron buys land at a low price, alters it, that is subdivide the land into smaller units which suit residential or commercial use and sells those pieces of land at a higher price. They make huge profits as they would have bought the land at considerably low prices.
Most land barons corruptly buy the land from city councils which sell land at very low price. They use their access to high-ranking council officials to acquire land at subs diced prices, which they then subdivide the land and sell to desperate home seekers who are in need of residential property to own.
Many home seekers have fallen victim to land barons who sale them residential stands which are later deemed by the council to have been illegally acquired or said to be used for wrong purposes.
In recent months the Harare city council as well as the Chitungwiza municipality have demolished people’s properties under the pretext that the said properties are allegedly under illegal occupation by the affected residents.
In conclusion, when you want to buy a stand make sure you very with the local authority on the legality, the seller and the use of the said land before you make a purchase in order to avoid lose.
