To acquire a stand is to get full ownership or full possession of a stand in your name. In today’s article I am going to talk about what one has to do when acquiring a residential stand or the legal procedure of acquiring a stand.
First of all, you need to be on the council residential housing waiting list and for you to be on that waiting list you make an application to the housing department in Mbare at remembrance house, where you will be required to fill in a form and pay the administration fee. By so doing you will be automatically on the council residential housing waiting list which means that you will be considered for stand allocation.
When your turn arrives stand you will be called in for an interview. The interview is for the council to see whether you have the capacity to construct or develop the stand and to verify whether you don’t have any other property in Harare.
If you pass the interview, the council will issue you an offer later and then you will go ahead and pay for your stand. This is the correct procedure when you are buying a stand from the council. But when you are buying it from a private seller you need to verify with the council whether the person is the actual owner of the stand, whether the land has not been sold to someone else and also whether the land is for housing purposes.
